Jacqueline Yeung is a Hong Kong-born, UK-educated artist who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Interior and Spatial Design from Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London. With over ten years of professional interior and curatorial experience, she has worked with global firms such as Aedas and Woods Bagot, and renowned clients such as Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Jacqueline has synesthesia, a neurological condition in which perceptual information leads to the simultaneous stimulation of several senses. Among the 60 to 80 subtypes of synesthesia, she experiences chromesthesia, which prompts her to see colours in sounds. As one of the estimated 4% of the population who has some form of synesthesia, Jacqueline joins the likes of Vincent Van Gogh and Wassily Kandinsky, whose creative impulses art historians have attributed to the perceptual phenomenon. Drawing inspiration from her synesthetic visions, Jacqueline’s creative process embraces both music and visible forms. Influenced by the euphonic tones, rhythms, and tempos that she hears, Jacqueline delivers visual symphonies: as colourful touches form dynamic patterns and stimulating shapes, the stirring emotions in music materialise in her designs.

Intuition regarding aural and visual relevance shapes Jacqueline’s work as a synesthetic spatial designer. Bringing together texture, detail, and the personal touch, Jacqueline’s distinctive commissions in spatial design and lifestyle projects are inspired by profound introspection and a heightened consideration of the sounds encompassed in the environment. Her artistry and sensitivity give rise to her appreciation of how acoustic conditions, through association with components such as colour and shape, may enhance the character of physical spaces.
